The Blind Side

A film provided by Warner Bros Entertainment, directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Gil Netter, Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove in 2009. It is a true story of an All-American football star Michael Oher and starred Sandra Bullock, Tim Mcgraw, Kathy Bates, Quinton Aaron, Lily Collins and Jae Head. It grossed over $300 million, was nominated for 2 Academy Awards: Best Performance by an actress in a Leading Role and Best Motion Picture of the Year but won one. Sandra Bullock was awarded the Oscar for her outstanding performance in a Leading Role. She also won the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role.

Plot Synopsis

Michael, a homeless African-American teenager, becomes part of a Caucasian family who helped him overcome his learning difficulties and reach his potential both as a student and a football player. He went from homeless and lonely to becoming a son and a brother to the Tuohy family members. They nurtured him with love, respect and compassion, giving him the tools to help him grow socially and emotionally, and heal from a very difficult and lonely childhood.

Fun Facts

Michael Oher had been to 11 schools in nine years prior to attending Briarcrest Christian School. His attendance was in question because he often skipped classes, but he decided that he wanted to be something in life and stuck with it.

The real name of the school Michael attended is Briarcrest, home of the Briarcrest Saints and not Wingate as portrayed in the movie. The name was changed because of concerns over instances of "artistic license" in the original script that stretched the truth.

Life of Pi had its worldwide premiere as the opening film of the 51st New York Film Festival in 2012, was directed by Ang Lee and written by David Magee. It stars Suraj Sharma, Irfan Khan, Rafe Spall, Tabu, Adil Hussain and Gerard Depardieu.
Life of Pi was a commercial success grossing more than $600 million worldwide and became the biggest Hollywood hit of the year in India.It was nominated for eleven Academy awards and won four: Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score.

Plot Synopsis

The story revolves around a man named Pi who tells about his life story, when at the age of sixteen he survives a shipwreck and is adrift the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat. He is stranded with a Bengal tiger whose name is Richard Parker who is kept alive with food and water provided by Pi and the two develops a relationship that allows them to coexist in their struggle.

The lead actor of the movie Suraj Sharma had no experience in acting.

Barak Obama wrote a letter to Yann Martel whose novel the movie was based on in which he described Life of Pi as
"an elegant proof of God, and the power of storytelling."
