Up was released on May 29, 2009, and opened the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first animated and 3D film to do so. The film’s budget was $175 million. Up has grossed over $735 million. The film won two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature, and was nominated for three more awards, including Best Picture

plot Synopsis

Carl Frederickson, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, tries to fulfill a lifelong dream. Before his wife died, they had wished to travel to Paradise falls. Determined to save his home and keep a promise he made to his wife. He ties thousands of balloons to his house, and flies away to Paradise Falls, the South American wilderness. However, Carl's worst nightmare comes true when he discovers a little scout boy named Russell, hiding aboard the already airborne house. Russell wanted to earn his ‘Assisting the Elderly’ scout badge. They meet a talking dog and a strange bird. They also meet Muntaz, a man who wanted to capture the strange bird for personal gain. Carl becomes faced with hard decisions to safe his house and keep his promise, or to try ad save the bird.

Pixar consulted with an architect to learn about home foundations in order to make the lift off Carl’s house more realistic.
The pack of dogs were based on a single dog named Beta. Beta’s body shape was altered and groomed to give rise to a pack of 50 different dogs.
To walk from the location where Carl and Russell first arrive on the tepui to the top of Paradise Falls, would require a 14.5-mile walk. It is about 6.75 miles across to the nearest tepui when they look out across the landscape.

Many of the characters have eyeglasses, so the crew used mattes to avoid reflection
Harlan's expression changes in his portrait once his murder is solved.
