Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a 2012 American science fiction comedy adventure film directed by Brad Peyton and produced by Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Charlotte Huggins. It is the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008). Following the first film, the sequel is based on another Jules Verne novel, The Mysterious Island (1874). The film stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán, and Kristin Davis. The story was written by Richard Outten, Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and the screenplay by Brian and Mark Gunn.

Plot Synopsis

Sean (Josh Hutcherson) goes on a new journey when he receives a distress signal from an island where none is known to exist. Thinking it might be the "Mysterious Island" Jules Verne wrote about, and that the signal may have come from Sean's grandfather, the boy and his new stepdad (Dwayne Johnson) decide to travel halfway around the world to find the island, with the help of a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens).

Fun Facts

Some pieces in the movie were made to look extremely realistic like a submarine Nautilus which is handmade. The scene when Vanessa had to crawl in the movie actually had real cockroaches. a lot of scenes were filmed in front of blue and green screens with the help of mechanical props including the part where they were flying on the top of giant bees and when they were underwater.

It stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan in lead roles, and it was produced by Jerry Weintraub, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jaden's parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Plot Synopsis

When his mother's career results in a move to China, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) finds that he is a stranger in a strange land. Though he knows a little karate, his fighting skills are no match for Cheng, the school bully. Dre finds a friend in Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a maintenance man who is also a martial-arts master. Mr. Han teaches Dre all about Kung Fu in the hope that Dre will be able to face down Cheng and perhaps win the heart of a pretty classmate named Mei Ying.

Fun Facts

Some fun facts about the movie that it is the first movie to shoot in The Forbidden City since Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor (1987). Furthermore, Several scenes were cut and trimmed for the mainland Chinese release, including the curtailing of scenes with bullies and the removal of a kissing scene. Also, Ralph Macchio, the star of the original Karate Kid film declined the offer of a cameo in this film.
